The annual Golden Shaker Cocktail Challenge, organised by the Bartenders Association of Ireland and sponsored by Re’al Infused syrups and Finest Call Cocktail Mixes, took place on Monday 15th July in The Betsy in Swords, Co. Dublin.
Ten cocktail bartenders were selected to compete in theis year’s challenge, which had a movie theme. Each of the bartenders were asked to create an original cocktail recipe using Re’al Infused syrup or Finest Call Cocktail Mixes & Purees, and describe how a movie inspired their cocktail. Several finalists used props and costumes.
The overall winner of the challenge was Daniel Wieliczko from Prado, Clontarf, for his cocktail Phantom’s Dream – made with 4cl of strawberry gin infused with cranberry, 1cl of Kwai Feh, 3cl of Finest Call Strawberry Puree, 2cl of Raspberry Re’al puree & 1cl of Finest Call Lime Juice.
Finishing in second place was Laura Gier of the Dylan Hotel, with her cocktail Valley of Ashes – made with 1.5cl of Re’al Blue Agave Nectar, 5 dashes of Peychauds Bitters, 1.5cl of fresh lemon juice, 1.5cl of Green Chartreuse and 5cl of Tullamore Dew 12yr.
Third place in the competition went to Oisin Kelly of Sidecar Bar at The Westbury for his cocktail Soliloquy – made with 4cl of Hendricks Midsummer Solstice Gin, 1.5cl of Cocchi Americano, 1.5cl of Peach Re’al and 2 of dashes Campari.
The winner received their very own Golden Shaker and €1,000 prize money.
