Five US travel agents with Virtuoso, a global network of agencies specialising in luxury and experiential travel, arrived in Dublin on the weekend of June 7th, on the inaugural flight from Dallas, Texas.
American Airlines has begun daily nonstop flights from June until 28th September from Fort Worth, the 13th-largest city in the US. This is the first ever direct flight from Dallas Fort Worth International airport into Dublin.
Almost 2m North American tourists visited Ireland last year, up 14% on 2017. It is hoped that the introduction of this new flight will provide a boost to tourism between Ireland and Texas.
Fáilte Ireland, in conjunction with Tourism Ireland, showcased attractions and places to stay in Dublin, Kildare, Kilkenny and Waterford to the group of tour agents. Their itinerary included attractions such as the K Club, Kildare; Falconry at Mount Juliet; Coffee making at Kytelers Inn; Nicholas Mosse Pottery, Kilkenny Castle; and the Medieval Mile in Kilkenny.
The tailored visit has been designed to promote Ireland to high end travellers from the US market who have expressed an interest in growing their business into Ireland.
Oonagh Kelly, Trade & Platforms Manager with Fáilte Ireland, welcomed the group, saying: “It is our hope that this trip will provide these highly influential travel agents from Texas with the opportunity to share their experiences of what is on offer in Ireland.”
