Welcoming the confirmation that Dublin will be one of the host cities for the 2020 European Championship, Niall Gibbons, Tourism Ireland CEO, said:“The announcement that Dublin will be one of the host cities of Euro 2020 is really good news. Major sporting events deliver significant economic benefits and provide us with global publicity opportunities.

“Sports-related tourism has emerged as a very significant element of world tourism, with a multi-million euro market and huge potential for countries who position themselves correctly. High profile sporting events like the recent Croke Park Classic and the opening stages of the Giro d’Italia provide Tourism Ireland with a unique opportunity to highlight the island of Ireland as a wonderful holiday destination, as well as a top location for sporting events.”

The capital is set for a boost of up to €100m after it was confirmed that the Aviva Stadium will host three group round fixtures, followed by a round of 16 fixture.
