Tourism Ireland’s annual sales mission to Canada began the first week of February, with a delegation of 14 tourism enterprises taking part.
The tour included stops at Vancouver, Calgary, Hamilton and Toronto, and involved the participating Irish companies meeting, and doing business with, tour operators and travel agents in each city.
Messages pushed by Tourism Ireland included ease of access from Canada to Ireland, with more airline seats this summer than ever before, as well as the range of things to see and do for Canadian holidaymakers.
Travel agents and tour operators continue to be an important booking channel for Canadian holidaymakers, so a key element of Tourism Ireland’s activity involves working closely with the travel trade, both online and offline.
CSO figures for 2018 indicate year-on-year growth of 8.2% for Canadian travellers to Ireland.
Dana Welch, Tourism Ireland’s Manager, Canada, said: “Our sales blitz to Vancouver, Calgary, Hamilton and Toronto this week provides an excellent platform to kick-start our promotional effort for 2019 and to spread the word about the things to see and do right around the island of Ireland.”
