The Wild Duck Theatre Bar, located on 17/21 Sycamore Street, at the side of the Olympia Theatre, had its official opening night on Saturday 22nd September.
At Dublin’s newest bar and live music venue, the opening night featured a performance by The Metabolix in the adjoining Wild Duck Live Music Venue, accessed via the bar or its own entrance.
Over the coming months, The Wild Duck venue will further open a large, flexible theatre and arts space, and a mezzanine roof top bar with a retractable glass roof, each ideal for a range of events, performances and private and corporate hire. Once complete, The Wild Duck venue will extend to over 8,000 sq ft in total.
The Wild Duck Theatre Bar is open fronted with a large smoking friendly terrace facing onto the street. The look throughout is retro, with an eclectic mix of vintage and modern art, prints, photos, furniture and curios.
The theatrical style of the venue is no designer-led vision. The wildly diverse décor was created from the personal collection of antiques, curiosities and mementoes, gathered over many years by the proprietor Gary Whelan. Gary, who created the iconic Whelan’s on Camden Street, is also the owner of The Dalkey Duck, and a familiar face from his long acting career on shows such as Ballykissangel and The Bill.
By contrast, the drinks and food menus are modern and on trend. Open from early, the current all-day menu suits bar snacks, lunch, supper and dinner, based across wings, dogs, burgers and fries.
