The annual Southern Comfort Southern Showdown cocktail competition goes global for 2018, with winners from Ireland, the UK and Australia set to compete in a New Orleans final later this year.
With the competition now in its second year in Ireland, bartenders are being challenged this year to recreate the spirit of their home town in a cocktail.
Each cocktail will need to include the bartender's choice of either Southern Comfort Original, Southern Comfort Black or Southern Comfort 100. Entrants are also encouraged to use bespoke and local ingredients in their recipes.
Entries will be judged based on the uniqueness, imagination and consumer appeal of each cocktail. Distributor Hi-Spirits Ireland will host the Showdown final in Dublin in May, where the competitors will make their cocktail in front of a panel of judges.
The national winner and a runner up will win a VIP trip to New Orleans this July, including tickets to the Tales of the Cocktail event. The final day will see the Irish winner take on their UK and Australian counterparts in a grand finale.
George Roberts, Country Manager of Hi-Spirits Ireland, said: "The Southern Showdown is bigger and better than ever this year. The imagination, knowledge and flair shown by our finalists last year was amazing, and with the stakes even higher this year we're expecting to see some great cocktails in the competition.
"The fact that entrants now have the choice of both Southern Comfort Black and Southern Comfort 100 alongside Southern Comfort Original gives them a wider range of flavour profiles to work with."
The closing date for initial entries for each region is 30th April. Entries can be submitted online at https://southernshowdown.southerncomfort.com/ie/ where full terms and conditions are also available.
