Shoppers are being encouraged to buy Guaranteed Irish this Christmas, as part of a newly launched campaign to highlight the business membership organisation.
The organisation is calling on consumers to purchase gifts and foods from its members, of which there are over 300 nationwide. Almost a quarter of those represented are in the gift industry, from up-and-coming designers to leading international food brands.
Throughout November and December, Guaranteed Irish will shine a spotlight on its members in the gift industry, encouraging consumers to ‘buy GI’.
Brid O’Connell, CEO of Guaranteed Irish, said: “The average household spends €2,500 at Christmas. This goes not only towards gifts, but also food and other festive treats. Research we conducted with Amárach Research showed that spending an extra €4 a week on Guaranteed Irish goods and services could create up to 6,000 new jobs.
“Our message to shoppers this Christmas is to be selective about what you buy and where you buy it from. When you ‘buy GI’ for Christmas gifts and for the Christmas dinner, you support businesses and brands that are making a tangible and valuable contribution to Irish life.
“Whether you’re shopping online or on your local high street, think about whether the money you’re spending is contributing to creating jobs, supporting communities and showcasing Ireland’s success – particularly if you’re sending gifts overseas.”
