Images of Ireland will be seen by more than 900,000 people across Germany later this year, when a special episode of German travel programme Grenzenlos – Die Welt Entdecken airs.
The production crew of the popular German show (which translates as ‘Without borders – discover the world’) was filming in Ireland at the start of August, having been invited here by Tourism Ireland and Fáilte Ireland.
The crew filmed in various locations, including in Kinsale with Martin Shanahan of Fishy Fishy restaurant, at the annual Omey Races in Connemara, as well as in Lisdoonvarna with matchmaker Willie Daly. The resulting programme will air to around 900,000 people on Sat.1, a major national TV channel, this autumn. It will also be available on the programme’s YouTube channel.
A crew from Sat.1 also filmed in Ireland for Grenzenlos – Die Welt Entdecken, in May. To view that programme, which focused on the Wild Atlantic Way, click here.
Peter Nash, Tourism Ireland’s Manager for Central Europe, said: “Television and film are recognised as strong influencers for prospective holidaymakers and Tourism Ireland regularly works with TV and production companies around the world, to facilitate the making of travel and lifestyle programmes and films around the island of Ireland.”
Peter Nash continued: “In 2018, we welcomed around 818,000 German arrivals to Ireland. Tourism Ireland has an extensive programme of promotions under way again in 2019, to continue to grow German visitor numbers and, in particular, to encourage more German holidaymakers to explore our regions and less-visited attractions, during the shoulder and off-season months.”
