One of Ireland’s Most Remote Hotels on Market for $400k

Ostan Thoraigh, situated on Tory Island off the coast of Letterkenny, has been put for sale with a price tag of €400k.

The hotel is one of the most remote in the country, and has a long history as a retreat for artists and those looking to immerse themselves in island life. Tory Island is part of the Donegal Gaeltacht and has one of the highest rates of native Irish speakers in the country, with a population of just 140, and can be reached by an hour long ferry that operates four times daily in the summer and twice daily in the winter.

The hotel dates from the late 1800s and was initially a hotel and general store. Roger Casement once stayed at the hotel, and Joseph Mary Plunkett sent a postcard from the hotel in 1914.

Currently operated by the Doherty family, the 14 bedroom hotel includes a bar and restaurant and trades seasonally.

The sale is being handled by Glen Estates. For more information, email
