An objection has been lodged by An Taisce over the planned extension of the Radisson Blu Hotel on Golden Lane, with the national trust claiming the scale and density of the new build is ‘grossly excessive’.
Galway-based Rhatigan Property Group received planning permission from An Bord Pleanála late last year for a new six storey over two storey basement extension to the property. The new build would bring the hotel’s room stock to in excess of 200.
Dublin City Council had concluded that while the application is of significant scale, it would not be detrimental to the integrity of the streetscape and roof-scape of the area. An Taisce has now appealed that dcision and said that if the plan is not significantly revised it would not hesitate in refusing the permission.
The hotel, like many in the central Dublin area, has been enjoying strong profits in recent years as high tourist numbers puts an increasing pinch on hotel room availability in the capital.
A decision is due later this year.
