McDonald’s has released Donut Sticks, the latest addition to its breakfast menu as the chain continues to reinvigorate its breakfast offering.
In November 2017, the company launched Triple Breakfast Stacks – the first new breakfast item since 2013. Two months prior, in September, the $1 / $2 / $3 offerings were expanded to include two breakfast sandwiches at the $1 price point.
Taking a page from Dunkin’, which successfully released Donut Fries in 2018, McDonald’s Donut Sticks are strips of sweetened dough deep fried until golden brown, and sprinkled with cinnamon sugar. They are retailing for a recommend price of $1.29 for six or $2.39 for a dozen, while a deal is being pushed of six sticks and a small coffee for €1.99.
Linda VanGosen, McDonald’s Vice President of Menu Innovation, said: “We initially tested them in select Illinois restaurants in early 2018, and then again in October 2018, as it was critical that we perfected them before we brought them to our customers nationwide. We looked at several donut shapes, tested a variety of doughs and even worked to get the amount of cinnamon sugar just right for the recipe.”
