Limerick’s Cornstore has won the Cocktail Bar of the Year accolade at the Bar Awards in Dublin on Tuesday October 28th. Cornstore Cork and Limerick were the only two cocktail bars outside of Dublin to reach the final 8 – RL Bar, at Rock Lobster, The Blind Pig, The Liquor Rooms, The Mint Bar, The Vintage Cocktail Club & Upstairs at Kinara Kitchen all from Dublin were the other finalists.
For the second year running Cornstore Limerick won the presitigious Cocktail Bar of the Year Award. Emmanuel Barrett, General Manager, and Alex Arnautu were there to accept the award, beating off stiff competition from seven other finalists.
Their mixologists in both Limerick and Cork use fruit and vegetable based elixirs that are infused in-house over a time period of anything up to 14 days resulting in a new range of signature infused cocktails. Once these infusions reach their peak, the alcohol soaked ingredients are removed and the mixologists get creative with their newly flavoured liquors.
“Think garlic and chilli infused vodka as a base for a Cornstore Bloody Mary or a plum infused whiskey delicately balanced with the sweetness of plum jam and orange peel along with the sour depth of angostura bitters,” said restaurateur Padraic Frawley. “This process is relatively new for us but our mixologists are hungry for experimentation and I look forward to seeing what ingredients they use next.”
