Chef and restauranteur Pedro Ledesma has taken over the lease at La Vissuta Italian restaurant on High Street in Tuam, Co. Galway. Pizza, pasta, fish and steaks will remain at the core of the menu with some new additions such as arancini rice balls and sharing platters.

Pedro has been in hospitality in the town for nearly two decades, having previously worked as Head Chef for 3 years at the Spanish Arch Hotel, Galway City before owning Pedro’s Café in Tuam for 10 years and then leasing The Front Room in Tuam.

“I had a lot of reasons for choosing La Vissuta. It has been recently refurbished. I really like the central location, the fact that the food is Mediterranean and that there is an established clientele,” said Pedro.

Some may say it is a difficult time for the hospitality industry for obvious reasons, but Pedro believes that the time is right for evening dining in Tuam: “After almost two years of restrictions, I believe there is a big appetite (pardon the pun) for a nice meal and a good night out. I am also lucky with the team that I have because most of them were working at La Vissuta before I took over.”

“I want people to feel like they have come on holiday when they come here; that it is a treat, but also a place where you feel right at home. The steak is from Gerry Mullins Butcher just around the corner, the fish from Glancy’s in Tuam and where possible I will use local suppliers. I have updated the menu and added new desserts and cocktails so a group can make a night of it”, said Pedro.

The restaurant is open from 5pm from Thursday to Monday. Bookings can be made through email, on 093 24799 and through Facebook and Instagram.

In addition to some updates of the main menu, there is a new kids’ menu, new wine list and cocktail specials. Tiramisu and panna cotta are on the dessert menu as well as excellent coffee from coffee.ie in Milltown.

There is an Early Bird Menu on Thursday and Friday from 5-6pm for 20 euro for two courses (pizza and pasta mains) and 20 per cent off the main menu for takeaway options.
