The Government has appointed a top tourism boss from Fáilte Ireland to head up the centenary commemorations of the 1916 Rising.
John Concannon is the current Director of Market Development with Failte Ireland and will now fill the role of director of commemorations for the next two and a half years.
Details of events surrounding the commemoration are expected to be released by the Taoiseach in the coming weeks.
Mr. Concannon is widely respected in the tourism industry had previously held marketing and brand manager roles in Unilever and Dubarry. He was heavily involved in The Gathering and in co-ordinating recent visits by Queen Elizabeth and US President Barack Obama.
