Keep the Conversation Going with Lyons Tea and Pieta House

Lyons Tea has again teamed up with Pieta House for the fourth year of the partnership that helps raise awareness and funds for the charity.

Pieta House provides a free, therapeutic approach to people who are in suicidal distress and those who engage in self-harm, and the support of Lyons Tea and its tea drinkers across the country is important to ensure the service remains free of charge.

Since opening in 2006, Pieta House has helped over 40,000 people in its 15 centres nationwide as well as operating suicide bereavement counselling centres for people and families who have been bereaved by suicide. Alongside the counselling and support services, Pieta House has a number of training and education programmes, such as its resilience academy that works with students and teachers in secondary schools across the country to help build their own personal resilience to cope with life ahead of them.

There was an increase of 50% in the numbers of people coming to Pieta House between 2016 (5,010) and 2018 (7,438). And it looks as if that trend will continue with over 4,100 people using its services in the first six months of 2019. These numbers highlight the importance of promoting positive mental health with young people and ensuring they know there are support services out there like those offered by Pieta House.

Last year, people drank 74m cups of Lyons Tea from special promotional packs in support of Pieta House. Lyons Tea is again calling on its tea lovers to support the charity.

Jim Reeves, Customer Director Ireland at Unilever Food Solutions, said: “Pieta House does fantastic work with people who at their most vulnerable and they have had an immensely positive impact on so many lives. We’re delighted to lend our support again this year and very proud to be associated with such an important organisation.

“Irish people are great talkers and we reflect that in our new brand purpose ‘Now we’re talking’, but sometimes shy away from talking about issues that maybe negatively affecting our mental health. Through our partnership we want to promote more open conversations and encourage more people to discuss problems or life’s stresses with loved ones. And, if needs be, reach out for professional support services, like Pieta House. Over the past few years, it has been reassuring to see that mental health and wellbeing being talking about more openly and we want to help keep that conversation going with Lyons Tea.”

People can help support Pieta House by purchasing special promotional boxes of Lyons Tea. Trade customers can support by purchasing the Lyons Tea Original Blend 600 special case and for every case purchased, Lyons Tea will donate 50 cent to Pieta House, while stocks last.

Retail customers can show their support by purchasing Lyons Tea Original Blend 80 promotional boxes. For every box sold, Lyons Tea will donate 10 cent to Pieta House. These promotional boxes will be available in selected stores nationwide from the end of September, while stocks last.
