Just Eat is celebrating ten years of operation in Ireland, where the comany has grown consistently over the last decade to now have over 2,100 restaurant partners on its service.
Just Eat launched in Ireland with 219 restaurant partners with a choice of 11 different cuisines. There has been huge growth since then to over 2,100 restaurant partners with over 40 different cuisines. Launched in 2013, the Just Eat Ireland app has now been downloaded over one million times and as of 2018 the majority of customers order via the app. Over 80% of customers are now ordering via mobile devices including the Just Eat app and mobile site.
Data from Just Eat shows Irish consumers are increasingly health conscious. Over the past five years, there has been an eighteen-fold increase in the number of customers ordering healthy choices including salads, as well as significant growth in vegan, vegetarian, paleo and gluten free orders.
Despite the shift to healthier take out, the top spot for 2018 as the most ordered meal is still the spice bag.
Over the past ten years, Saturday remains the most popular day to place an order on Just Eat, and Irish consumers like to treat themselves during the Winter months, with December seeing a rise in orders. Data also shows that customers are also beginning to eat earlier in the day, with the average order time consistently getting earlier, and lunchtime meal orders steadily increasing.
New Year’s Day, Valentine’s Day and St. Patrick’s Day are some of the top order occasions. Parties throughout the year impact orders – orders rise during Christmas office party season and the day after festivals sees people choosing takeaway as they recover.
