The Jamie Oliver Group in collaboration with franchise partner Gerry Fitzpatrick have announced the opening of a new restaurant in the heart of Dublin.
Chequer Lane by Jamie Oliver will occupy the space formerly taken by Boulevard Café and children’s clothes shop Petit. The 100 seater restaurant, due to open in April 2020, will be three doors away from Fallon & Byrne and is expected to directly compete with the longstanding restaurant and food hall.
Gerry Fitzpatrick, of the Fitzers Catering family, has successfully run Jamie’s Italian in Dundrum since 2012 and his franchise is independent of Oliver’s main group, which closed 22 outlets in the UK in 2019.
The new restaurant is billed as a once-off rather than a continuation of Oliver’s pizza and pasta concept, focusing instead on Irish produce such as beef from Gilligan’s Farm, Co. Roscommon, fish from Kish Fish, and coffee from Imbibe in Dublin 8.
As well as frequently rotating seasonal dishes, the new restaurant will have weekend brunch menus and Jamie’s roasts.
The food will be served alongside cocktails, wines, and local beers and ciders.
Jamie Oliver said: “Chequer Lane will celebrate some of my favourite comfort food and the menu will be packed with big, hearty flavours and simple, seasonal ingredients. The food I really love to cook and diners love to eat. Ireland has some of the greatest produce in the world and we can’t wait to show it off.”
Gerry Fitzpatrick said: “Chequer Lane will be a fantastic addition to Dublin’s bustling restaurant scene. Diners can expect the very best of delicious and affordable Irish food and drink in a welcoming environment in the heart of Dublin City. We’re excited to be working with some of the finest local food producers and, as always, having a great team is at the heart of everything we do so we’re looking for bright, ambitious people to join us for this exciting new venture.”
It is expected that 30 jobs will be created as a result of the opening and the company is currently hiring for all positions including a head chef, sous chefs, and front of house.
