Tourism Ireland hosted an event in Milan recently to highlight the island of Ireland to around 100 attending travel and lifestyle journalists, bloggers and influencers.
The event was designed to entertain and inform the guests about Ireland and bring the destination to life, presenting new themes and story ideas for 2020 to the media and influencers.
It involved a full day of presentations, networking, as well as interactive sessions including a cooking demo by Tracey’s Farmhouse Kitchen in Killinchy and a whiskey tasting.
Other organisations showcasing included Galway 2020, Kingdom Food Tours, the National Trust, Clonalis House and MoLI (Museum of Literature Ireland).
The new destination brand for Northern Ireland, Embrace a Giant Spirit, was also unveiled to those attending. Ireland’s Hidden Heartlands was also showcased at the event.
Tourism Ireland also took the opportunity to highlight its new ‘twinning’ initiative for 2020, which will see each overseas market twinning with a specific region in Ireland. Italy is twinning with the Dingle Peninsula as part of the campaign.
Speaking in Milan, Niamh Kinsella, Tourism Ireland’s Manager Italy, said: “In 2019, we welcomed around 392,000 Italian visitors to Ireland. We are now focused on the year ahead. Our aim is to continue to grow Italian visitor numbers and, in particular, to encourage more of them to come and explore our regions and less-visited attractions during the off-peak season.
“We’re delighted to unveil the new destination brand for Northern Ireland, Embrace a Giant Spirt.”
