Independent Irish spirits company Intrepid Spirits has acquired a majority position in the Australian vermouth company Regal Rogue.
Following several months of discussions between the two companies, Intrepid has officially welcomed the brand into its portfolio of global spirits. Mark Ward, Regal Rogue’s founder, will continue to be involved in the development of the brand, working closely with the marketing team at Intrepid to expand the distribution and presence of Regal Rogue worldwide.
“Mark has created a world class brand and we look forward to bringing the infrastructure and resources required to take Regal Rogue to the next level,” said John Ralph, CEO of Intrepid Spirits.
Ralph continued: “while it is certainly an unusual time to announce Intrepid Spirits’ first major strategic brand investment, we were determined to take an optimistic approach to these tumultuous times. It’s something that Mark and I have been discussing for months, long before the pandemic, and we felt the long-term strategic value for both parties was just the reason to continue to move forward.”
Established in 2011, Regal Rogue is Australia’s first native vermouth. All four varietals —Lively White, Daring Dry, Bold Red and Wild Rosé — are all 100% organic Australian wines, blended with more than 17 herbs and native Australian spices sourced from Aboriginal farmers. They are low in alcohol and have lower sugar contents than traditional vermouth.
“When I debuted Regal Rogue in 2011, I sought to challenge tradition by introducing a vermouth with a captivating story and unique positioning as a stand-alone aperitif,” added Mark. “We’ve seen tremendous success in Australia, the UK and USA, and by joining the Intrepid portfolio, we’ll be able to dramatically amplify our positioning in the vermouth category.”
With this announcement, Regal Rogue will join Intrepid’s global spirits portfolio which includes Egan’s Irish Whiskey, Cocalero, and Mad March Hare Irish Poitín. In addition to its own brands, Intrepid also manages the distribution of several spirits in Ireland including Michter’s Whiskey, Pusser’s Rum, Merlet Cognac, Los Javis Mezcal and Kyrö Gin.
Regal Rogue has secured some premium accounts already in Ireland, featuring in signature drinks such as Bar 1661’s Brother Hubbard and on the The Shelbourne Hotel’s summer spritz menu. Regal Rogue Vermouth is distributed by Intrepid Spirits and is available at Waitrose and other select retailers in the UK and Ireland. For further inquiries, contact email@example.com.
