A group of 13 international media visited Ireland’s Hidden Heartlands region at the start of October, as guests of Fáilte Ireland and Tourism Ireland.

The group has a combined audience of over 10m, and the members were from countries including China, India, North America, and from across Europe.

A bespoke itinerary was designed by Fáilte Ireland involving five days of activities, culture and heritage across Ireland’s Hidden Heartlands including: kayaking on Lough Oughter, a tour of Cavan Burren Geo Park; visits to Rathcroghan Visitor Centre, Strokestown Park House, Lough Key Forest Park, Arigna Mines, Roscommon; cycling the Shannon Blueway, and a visit to the Food Hub at Drumshanbo in Leitrim.

Liam Campbell, Fáilte Ireland’s International Publicity Manager, said: “Welcoming and hosting international media is critical to positioning Ireland in front of a global audience. The international media we’re hosting in Ireland’s Hidden Heartlands will place the region and the brand firmly on the global stage. The coverage will be seen by millions of potential holidaymakers and visitors across several countries which will hopefully entice them to visit Ireland’s Hidden Heartlands in the near future.”

Fáilte Ireland launched the Ireland’s Hidden Heartlands brand in April 2018 to boost tourism and drive visitor growth across the Midlands region. The brand encourages visitors to get ‘active in nature’ and explore the natural assets of Ireland’s midlands region.
