As part of #StrongerTogether, our initiative in partnership with Unilever Food Solutions, we’re delighted to be recognising Hospitality Heroes: individuals or small teams from the hospitality sector who are doing amazing things to support their communities during the current crisis.

Our third Hospitality Hero is Pat O’Sullivan and his team at the catering company Master Chefs. Since the Covid-19 crisis began, they have been preparing and delivering free meals to the vulnerable and elderly residents of the Mid West through their #FreeMealsForTheElderly initiative.

The group’s hospitality businesses have been hit hard by Coronavirus, which has a huge impact on its 350+ members of staff. But Pat also recognised that many older people may struggle to get the food and supplies they need during the crisis, so he decided to do something practical to help.

From their production facility in Ballysimon in Limerick city, the team are preparing food for to up to 100 different homes across Limerick and Clare and have so far delivered more than 2,500 free meals.

The initiative was completely self-funded for the first three weeks. Since then Master Chefs has received financial support plus donations of fresh produce from local companies and partners – enabling them to help those who need it most. Pat and his team also note the importance not only of providing good quality nutritious meals, but in some cases a friendly face and a quick chat for those who may have no other contact with the outside world.

Follow Pat and the team via their Facebook and Twitter pages.
