Hooked restaurant in Sligo has been named the Bord Bia Just Ask Restaurant of the Year for 2019, in recognition of its championing of local suppliers and producers.
The Just Ask Restaurant of the Month rewards eateries across Ireland that exhibit best practices in showing transparency in the sourcing of the food on their menus. Hooked has previously won Restaurant of the Month for June 2018.
Located a short walk away from its well known older sister restaurant Eala Bhán, Hooked was opened in November 2017 by Sligo restaurateur Anthony Gray and his wife Eilish. In its first 12 months, Hooked also picked up Best Newcomer of the Year at the Yes Chef Awards, and Best Newcomer in Connaught in the Irish Restaurant Awards, while also being included in the John & Sally McKenna Guide for 2019.
Anthony has championed local producers for many years and is Chairman of the Sligo Food Trail and a former president of the Restaurants Association of Ireland, while Head Chef Joe McGlynn has trained and worked with chefs all over the country.
The Hooked menu pays tribute to local producers. Grass fed beef is sourced locally from Sherlock’s of Tubbercurry in Sligo, eggs come from a small family free range producer in Ballisodare. Andarl Farm in Mayo supply pork, L.E.T.S. Organic Centre in Sligo provides vegetables and forage when in season, and next door bakery Le Fournil suppplies fresh breads daily. Irish cheeses are strongly represented and customers will find Dozios and Bluebell Falls Goats Cheese used regularly.
