Guinness Storehouse Wins Award for Growth in Asia

Guinness Storehouse’s growth in Asian markets has been recognised with the visitor experience winning the award for Tourism Provider of the Year at the Asia Matters Business Awards 2019.

The award sets out to recognise Irish companies who have achieved success in Asia. China is now the 8th largest market for Guinness Storehouse and in 2018, Guinness Storehouse welcomed 82,000 visitors from across Asia – including 51,000 from China.

This is a stark contrast to less than 10 years ago, when the Guinness Storehouse had virtually no Chinese or Asian visitors. The growth has come from the Sales & Business Development team’s decision in 2012 to focus on emerging markets. As a result, Chinese and Hong Kong visitors alone have grown 676% in the last 8 years.

As well as their recent award, Guinness Storehouse is the first visitor attraction in Dublin to complete the Fáilte Ireland China Ready Programme, receiving the international certification from the China Outbound Tourism Research Institute.

Following on from this, a new Guinness Gatehouse experience is opening in Shanghai on 19th December. Visitors to the Gatehouse will have the opportunity to take part in an immersive Guinness experience. The new venture includes a bar and restaurant, a private dining room and retail space.

Paul Carty, Managing Director of the Guinness Storehouse, said: “I would like to acknowledge the hard work undertaken by our Head of Sales & Business Development, Fiona Herald, with our Asia business and in particular with our Chinese market. Fiona has been instrumental in growing this important source market for the Irish brand homes.”
