Nine leading journalists from Germany and Switzerland have been visiting Ireland this week and enjoyed cruising on the River Shannon, as guests of Tourism Ireland and German cruising tour operator, Le Boat.

Representing various print and online publications, with a combined audience of hundreds of thousands of readers, the journalists were here to find out more about cruising holidays on the Shannon and its tributaries.

The group enjoyed cruising on Lough Derg, stopping off in Terryglass and in Garrykennedy, where they had a cooking demo and lunch at Larkins Bar & Restaurant. They visited Portumna Castle, Clonmacnoise and Ballynahown Craft Village during their time here and even tried a golf lesson at Glasson Hotel & Golf Club.

Zoë Redmond, Tourism Ireland’s manager for Central Europe, said: “Tourism Ireland was delighted to bring this group of journalists to Ireland. Fact-finding visits like this are very important; they are a really effective way for us to get positive exposure for Tipperary through the media in Germany and Switzerland.”
