Tourism Ireland has launched Galway 2020 in Frankfurt on Friday, 5th July, at an event attended by German travel professionals and journalists.
The event was timed to coincide with the state visit by President Michael D Higgins to Germany. After the launch, Galway band BackWest performed for President Higgins, the Irish Ambassador to Germany, and guests.
The Frankfurt launch was part of Tourism Ireland’s programme of promotions to highlight the island of Ireland to its ‘culturally curious’ audience in Germany. Tourism Ireland’s message is that Galway 2020 will offer German holidaymakers a unique cultural and artistic experience.
Peter Nash, Tourism Ireland’s Manager Central Europe, said: “Tourism Ireland’s message for our ‘culturally curious’ audience is that the island of Ireland offers world-class festivals and cultural experiences.”
Germany is the third largest source of visitors to the island of Ireland and one of the largest outbound travel markets in the world. 2018 was the eighth consecutive year of growth for Irish tourism from Germany, with almost 818,000 German arrivals – a 12.6% increase on the previous year.
