The end of January saw Fresh The Good Food Market launch their new burger menu in Smithfield. Already known for serving up salads and Asian street food, this endeavour aims to add a bit more variety for customers with filling lunches and dinners.

Shane Bryne from Fresh’s marketing department said that the grill area of the Fresh Kitchen needed a bit of a boost, as people were not as aware of it as the Asian section – which is visibly “All action”.

The launch of the burger menu included a promotion for Burger Fest, where everything from the grill menu was half price, aiming to entice customers to sample the new offerings. Two days into the special offer, Shane said it was a success with “Queues out the door” during both lunch and dinner periods.

The grill menu now features gourmet burgers ranging from Angus burgers and Greek lamb burgers to turkey burgers and veggie nut burgers. Unusual ingredients included on the menu are sriracha sauce and kimchi Asian slaw, which are carefully paired with burgers to create a flavoursome experience. The menu also has a selection of filling loaded fries and hot dogs, many of which feature a delicious habanero sauce and cheeses. Other more classic sides include rustic fries, sweet potato fries and onion rings.

There are also meal options available for customers which include a drink, burger and small side for a very reasonable €10. I personally sampled, and would recommend, the Philly cheese steak burger and cheesy bacon sweet potato fries, which were not only filling but extremely good value for money.

All the beef burgers are made in-house daily by resident craft butchers and the habanero sauce is also made on site. Shane said the vegetables are also “Supplied by our local vegetable supplier who sources from a variety of growers locally and from Europe”. The grill burger buns are also freshly backed and come from Firehouse Bakery in Delgany, Co. Wicklow.

Fresh started nearly ten years ago in Dublin, with the first of its five stores opening in Smithfield, Dublin 7. Featuring exotic, fresh and gourmet food, as well as a convenient hot food counter, the store offers people in the area something a little bit different with quality and niche produce available to buy. The store also promises that all their produce and suppliers, from Ireland and around the world, are carefully hand picked.
