A new craft shop has opened on the Bantry House and Garden estate, focusing on selling socially responsible products.
Located beside the arched Gate Lodge that leads up to Bantry House, the Estate Office Shop has collaborated with big and small names to curate a unique store for the area.
The Estate Office Shop places an emphasis on good quality and sustainable materials that are eco-conscious and socially responsible. It also offers a taster of Bantry House and Garden to both tourists and locals.
Items and products for sale have been sourced from a range of companies based in Ireland, the UK, Holland and India. Examples include the sustainable and ethical luxury brand, Elvis & Kresse, whose bags, wallets and accessories are made from old fire hose and leather cut-offs, which would otherwise go to landfill, and Dublin based jacket designer Francis Campelli of Mackintosh Rainwear Ltd.
Ottomania, the Dutch brand based in Haarlem, offers handmade products such as hammam bath towels, bathrobes, and scented soaps.
The shop’s founder, Brigitte Shelswell-White, said: “I felt it was important for Bantry House to have a presence in the town. It’s also a place where we can provide information and sell tickets to visitors of Bantry House and Garden.”
Bantry House and Garden is a stately home situated on the Wild Atlantic Way overlooking Bantry Bay. It houses an private collection of furniture and objets d’art. Home to the White family since 1739, it has been open to the public since 1946.
Brigitte soon hopes to sell reproductions of the objets d’art on display in Bantry House.
The shop is open from 11am – 5pm Tuesday – Saturday, while the house and gardens are open from 10am – 5pm 7 days a week.
