It’s back! Entries are now being accepted for the Knorr® Professional Great Irish Roast Competition 2021, with great prizes on offer for both meat and vegetarian category winners.
The Great Irish Roast Competition is seeking the nation’s most exceptional roast dinners and the chefs who work to craft them. Roasts are a mainstay of menus across the country – in fact they are one of the top ten selling dishes of any food operation, and the #4 selling dish in pubs. What’s more, gravy is seen as integral to a roast – 76% of consumers call it essential.
Audrey Crone, Executive Chef at Unilever Food Solutions Ireland, said: “A traditional roast dinner is one of the iconic dishes of our nation. Now in its 10th year, we are delighted to be launching the Knorr® Professional Great Irish Roast Competition 2021 – searching for the very best dishes from across Ireland and recognising the chefs who have created them.
As the ongoing focus on sustainable living sees an ever-increasing number of consumers enjoy a plant-based diet, whether as part of a flexitarian or vegetarian/vegan diet, we also want to recognise those businesses meeting these demands. That is why we are delighted to have two hotly contested categories in this year’s competition, one for meat dishes and the other for vegetarian or vegan dishes. So, if you think you serve the nation’s greatest roast dinner, why not enter today and have a chance to take the prestigious title of the winner of the Great Irish Roast 2021”.
In 2019, Griffins bar, Co. Galway was the Pub Category Winner; and the Limerick strand Hotel was the Hotel Category Winner.
This year there are two categories – Meat Roast, and Vegetarian or Vegan Roast. Each category winner will win the following:
- €3,000 Voucher
- 50,000 Chef Rewards Points
- Featured ‘Chef Focus’ on FFT.ie
- Framed Certificate
- Professional Photoshoot
- Local & National PR Support
The competition is open to any business that serves roasts to the public. This includes pubs, hotels, restaurants, cafés, golf clubs, leisure venues, and garden centres.
Eligible entrants must have positive TripAdvisor reviews (>4*), a picture of their menu and their roast, as well as a description of what makes their dish special.
All entrants will receive 500 Chef Rewards points upon entering, and an additional 250 points if they share an image of their roast on social media.
Entries are open until the 30th September. After that the entries will be judged, and a shortlist announced on 11th October. There will then be a mystery judging round, followed by a winner’s announcement on 15th November.
