Wholesale supplier Musgrave MarketPlace has announced that a total of €2.6m has been invested in two of its branches in the first six months of 2019, part of an ongoing package to upgrade its network over the coming period.

€1.7m of the investment was made into its Galway branch, while the remainder, €900,000, was made into its Derry Branch. In total, the company is investing €12.6m to transform all of its branches into state-of-the-art food emporiums while also reducing its carbon footprint.

The newly revamped branches in Galway (opening on July 24th), and Derry (opened on 20th June) have been designed with the customer and environment in mind. The newly revamped branch in Galway includes a new Food Theatre for product demonstrations, a bespoke butchery counter, a new coffee counter, as well as in-branch expert advice.

Investment in the Galway and Derry branches follows branch upgrades in branches at Ballymun, Dublin; Robinhood, Dublin; Cork; and Duncrue, Belfast.

All upgraded branches have been designed to save energy and reduce carbon emissions. It is estimated that Musgrave MarketPlace Galway will reduce its CO2 output by 82,000kg per annum, which is equivalent to the annual electricity required to run 50 homes.

As part of the brand’s ongoing commitment to eliminating food waste, Musgrave MarketPlace Galway has joined forces with social enterprise company FoodCloud. The partnership sees surplus food go to charity. So far in 2019, Musgrave MarketPlace Galway has donated over 2,000 meals to local Galway charities.

Additional upgrades in the Derry and Galway branches include an improved click and collect offering which allows customers to place orders online, park in a designated area and have their order brought straight out to them. Store navigation has also been made easier thanks to a colour blocking system, which aligns with a map on your trolley.
