Dublin Named 6th Friendliest City in the World by Big 7 Travel

Dublin and Cork have been named as two of the friendliest cities in the world, in a new survey carried out by Big 7 Travel.

The popular travel website asked its social audience of some 1.5m followers to decide on the friendliest cities around the globe. Vancouver, Canada, topped the list, followed by Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and Bruges, Belgium rounding out the top three.

Dublin, which came in 6th place overall, was described as a place that “Packs a serious punch when it comes to friendliness”. Big 7 also noted that “Locals even thank the bus driver – the perfect example of classic Irish warmth!”

For Cork, which came in 17th, Big 7 said that “Cork is a charming and compact riverside city, where the chances of a stranger saying hi to you on the street are likely”.

Siobhan McManamy, Tourism Ireland’s Director of Markets, said: “Again and again, our research shows us that the friendliness of our people is one of our unique selling points. It is the warm welcome and the ‘craic’ here that resonates with our overseas visitors and makes our cities, and the island of Ireland, such a great choice for a short break or holiday.”
