Coca-Cola has suspended all political donations in wake of the violent attempted uprising that took place in the US Capitol on January 6th.
The beverage company is one of a number of global businesses that have suspended donations, including UPS and WestRock. Coca-Cola had previously supported Republican candidates who had made unsubstantiated claims regarding voter fraud in the recent presidential election.
The company will still follow through with a previously announced plan to give a $50,000 cash donation and $60,000 in commemorative bottles to the inauguration of President-elect Joe Biden.
Coca-Cola had released a statement saying it was “stunned by the unlawful and violent events” of January 6th. “The current events will long be remembered and will factor into our future contribution decisions.”
Hallmark Cards Inc. has gone a step further, requesting the return of past donations to senators Josh Hawley and Roger Marshall, Republican lawmakers who are seen as helping incite Trump supporters to storm the Capitol.
