The Boatyard Distillery in Enniskillen, Co. Fermanagh has taken some major steps to reduce their carbon footprint.

Founder Joe McGirr says their quest to become more environmentally friendly has been ongoing over the past year.

“We are now using some of our by-products to make a bean to bar chocolate and we now use only recyclable shrink wrap on all pallets.

“Our distillery is working towards the huge challenge of being plastic free. We have started using new, environmentally friendly packaging made by the team at @flexi_hex. Our new protective sleeve not only provides great protection but is plastic-free, paper-based, reusable, recyclable and biodegradable,” says Joe McGirr.

“This is just one small step of many we will be implementing over time to reduce our carbon footprint to help combat global warming because, like a certain president’s hair, you can’t comb over climate change.

“The planet is changing and we all must change too.”

The Boatyard Distillery produces gin, vodka and bean-to-bar chocolate at its state of the art facility on the shores of Lough Erne. It is distributed globally.
