Blackwater Gin’s Garden Wins Gold at Bloom

The Blackwater Gin garden at Bloom Festival 2019 in Dublin, Ireland

Blackwater Distillery has won a Gold Medal at Bord Bia’s Bloom Festival for their bespoke-designed garden, making it the drinks industry’s first gin garden at the festival.

At this year’s Bord Bia Bloom Festival, the garden was one of 22 show gardens nominated for the best medium size garden. The category celebrates the skill and creativity of Ireland’s garden designers, landscapers and horticulturalists. The Blackwater Gin garden was designed by Peter Cowell and Monty Richardson and showcases how inventive upcycling of reclaimed and salvaged materials can lead to the creation of a garden that’s both planet-friendly and visually appealing.

The distillery, founded in 2012, is located on the banks of the Blackwater River in Co. Waterford. The company has rapidly expanded with popular products such as Boyle’s Gin in Aldi; Blackwater No. 5, a London dry gin; Woulfe’s Irish Vodka; and the limited-edition Barry’s Tea-infused gin. In 2018, it became Ireland’s 21st whiskey distillery.

Patricia Callan, Director of ABFI said: “Each distillery is different, and this garden showcases how Blackwater uses its picturesque surroundings to enhance the uniqueness and quality of the tourism offering. We’re absolutely delighted to see Blackwater’s creativity being recognised by Ireland’s most prestigious garden show.”
