Black Irish has started 2022 strong by continuing with its international expansion and securing a permanent listing with drinks retailer Alko in Finland.

The brand will now be listed in over 360 Alko stores across Finland and available to purchase online through their website.

Black Irish contains triple distilled blended Irish Whiskey matured in American ex-bourbon casks. The whiskey is then made dark with the blend of a strong stout and barrel-aged stout, which is also used to cut the cask strength whiskey to the bottling strength of 40%. This robust stout is filled with rich complex coffee aromas with light bitter notes. Infusions of chocolate malt and roasted barley are also used to accentuate the character and further deepen the colour of the liquid.

The end result is an innovation in the whiskey category – Irish Whiskey with stout, chocolate malt, and roasted barley. The bottle and label are a nod to the world of stout. Inspired by a vintage beer style, the bottle is produced in bespoke dark glass, with a crown cap and flip-top closure.

The brand was developed by Dublin-based Darker Still Spirits Company, with the intention of creating a new whiskey subcategory. With a 40% ABV, it has been designed to appeal to both whiskey drinkers and non-whiskey drinkers.

Black Irish is exclusively distributed internationally through Kirker Greer Spirits and represented in Finland by Vinic Oy.

John Soden, CCO of Kirker Greer Spirits, said: We are delighted to have Black Irish listed in Alko and look forward to working closely with our Import partners Vinic Oy and the team at Alko to build the brand in Finland over the coming years.”
