Ballymaloe House has continued its unbroken run of appearances in the Good Hotel Guide (GHG), with a listing as the publications Editor’s Choice ‘Foodie’ destination, one of only ten Editor’s Choice Foodie hotels in the publication and the only such Irish entry.
In 1977, The Good Hotel Guide (GHG) was launched and edited by British literary agent Hilary Rubenstein. His mission was to curate an ‘informed companion’ for the discriminating traveller, to categorise the fast-emerging hospitality industry in Great Britain, Ireland, Continental Europe, and the Caribbean.
Ballymaloe House is one of only four hotels to feature in every edition of the GHG since the very beginning 43 years ago. Ballymaloe has maintained its reputation annually since then, thanks to traveller reviews featuring personal accounts of genuine guest experiences.
“Gourmet hotels are the places where you will find the best food, quality service, an extensive wine list and a relaxing ambience. Food at these hotels will be of the highest quality and prepared under the watchful eye of the country’s best chefs,” states the guide.
Other Hotels to achieve this award include world famous Le Manoir aux’Quat Saisons and the trendy The Pig in the Forest, both in the UK.
This Foodie Award is worthy recognition of the efforts of Head Chef Dervilla O’Flynn and her chefs, aided by the entire team at Ballymaloe House.
“At the end of a turbulent year for our industry, this award gives us great confidence going into 2021 that we’re still offering a luxury experience for our guests which is worthy of international recognition,” said Dervilla.
“In 2020, we introduced an a la carte menu for the first time, which has been very well received. Our food at Ballymaloe is always focused on superb ingredients from passionate local producers, along with our harvest from our own gardens and farm. It is really encouraging when respected publications such as Good Hotel Guide recognise the flair and innovation we bring to these ingredients every day.”
There were nearly 850 hotels and B&Bs in the 2020 guide, each selected because of reader or inspector recommendations and selected for the publication purely on visitor experience.
