Ashford Castle has been confirmed as the first five star hotel in Ireland to be awarded the GREENMark Plastic Smart Standard for its efforts in responsible tourism and its commitment to remove all single use plastics (SUPs) from the Ashford Castle property by 2022.
The GREENMark Plastic Smart Standard is awarded to venues eliminating single use plastics from customer facing areas. GreenTravel developed the awards programme to enable businesses to promote their environmental good practices.
Ashford Castle is owned by the Red Carnation Hotel group, which has collaborated with the TreadRight foundation and is participating in the #MakeTravelMatter initiative to ensure that tourism has a positive impact on the people and communities visited.
Mr. Niall Rochford, General Manager at Ashford Castle, said: “We are delighted to have our efforts recognised by GreenMark and it is a great reward for the team here at Ashford Castle who have worked hard to successfully implement the initiative.”
