Abbeycrest Traders has rolled out a new digital contact tracing system, the first of its kind in Ireland, to help businesses capture information electronically.

The new system helps ensure that there are no errors in the data captured or wrong information given.

The customer must first register to enter a premises by texting the name of the premises followed by their first and last name to a mobile number. The system then sends back a confirmation text which they must show to gain entry. The system has now captured the correct mobile number and their name electronically. The customer will also be required to show the text message they registered with displaying their name and this must be verified with their official ID to gain entry.

This data is stored electronically and reports can be generated for any specific date/time on entries to the premises for COVID 19 contact tracing purposes. The data captured will only be used for COVID 19 contact tracing and is fully compliant under GDPR. The system will work with any mobile phone.

Roger Bourke, Abbeycrest Traders MD, said: “Research from Switzerland showed that after late night bars/clubs reopened after the lockdown, there was an outbreak of COVID 19 in a club in Zurich and subsequently, the police found that over one third of the mobile phone numbers given for COVID 19 contact tracing were false. All of the late bars/clubs had to close after that. With our digital contact tracing system, this would not have happened.”

Abbeycrest Traders have been supplying the Irish hospitality industry for over 27 years, with ticketing solutions for cloakrooms and admissions systems.
