GROW HQ, the home of the GIY movement and our national food education centre, opened in October 2016. Our award-winning 65-seat cafe has quickly established itself as a ground-breaking, centre of excellence for home-grown and local food. We have been positively reviewed by Katy McGuinness in The Sunday Times and Irish Independent and by Darina Allen in The Irish Examiner. We have already received a McKenna Guides award and were voted Best Newcomer in Waterford in the Irish Restaurant Awards in 2017. GROW HQ’s Founder Michael Kelly was given an ‘Irish Food Hero’ award at the same awards.
Uniquely, GROW HQ is about creating an authentic, seasonal plot-to-plate food experience for our customers by growing our own food in our vegetable gardens on site. In-season vegetables and fruit are always centre stage, and we also work with amazing local producers of meat, fish, dairy and bread. Led by our Head Chef JB Dubois, our food ethos is healthy, organic, seasonal, home-grown, local and always delicious.
On a 3-acre site in Waterford city, GROW HQ aims to break down the barriers between where food is grown, cooked and eaten. The café overlooks our kitchen garden and is set in a stunning grass-roofed eco-building. We are open 7 days week from 9am to 5pm and have recently started to open on weekend evenings with a tapas-style menu. The room is light-filled, vibrant and positive with a mix of communal long tables and 2 – 4 seat tables.
At this important stage in our development, we are looking for a passionate and experienced Front of House Manager to join our dynamic team and lead the GROW HQ Café team. Reporting to the Centre Manager, the Front of House Manager will help us to deliver an outstanding food experience in line with our vision and values.
GROW HQ is located about 5 minutes from Waterford City Centre on the ring road at Ardkeen and about ten minutes from surfing, swimming and fishing opportunities at Tramore, Dunmore East and Woodstown. We’re a short drive to the Comeragh Mountains and Ireland’s newest and longest cycle track, the 45k Deise Greenway. Waterford is Ireland’s oldest city and less than 2 hours drive to Dublin and Cork.
GIY is an emerging global community of people who grow their own food which was founded in Waterford in 2009. Our mission is to help create a healthier, happier and more sustainable world by inspiring and supporting people to re-connect with food by growing some of it themselves. In 2017, GIY will support over 500,000 people to grow their own food in over 8,000 community food groups, schools and workplaces across Ireland and the UK. www.giy.ie
